Get Back Stolen Property – Apply for an OAN!
With agricultural theft on the rise, protecting valuable equipment is more important than ever. The Riverside County Sheriff's Rural Crime Team is urging farmers and ranchers to safeguard their assets by marking machinery and tools with an Owner Applied Number (OAN)—a simple yet effective measure to aid in the recovery of stolen property.
What is an OAN? An Owner Applied Number (OAN) is a unique 10-digit identifier assigned to agricultural businesses. This number is stored in a STATEWIDE DATABASE and helps law enforcement identify and return stolen property, ensuring that essential equipment remains where it belongs.
Why Should You Get an OAN? Identification & Recovery: Marked equipment is easier to trace and recover if stolen.
- Deters Theft: Visible identification discourages thieves from targeting marked property.
- Community Support: The OAN program is backed by organizations such as the California Rural Crime Prevention Task Force and the California Highway Patrol.
A Free and Easy Solution - The Sheriff's Rural Crime Team offers OAN assignment and stamping at no cost. By taking advantage of this free program, agricultural businesses can significantly reduce their risk of theft and improve the chances of recovering stolen items.
How to Apply for an OAN - Farmers and agricultural business owners can contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Rural Crime Team to register and receive their OAN. Once assigned, the number is stamped onto valuable equipment, making it easily identifiable in case of theft.
Don’t wait until it’s too late—protect your property now. Contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Rural Crime Team to apply for your Owner Applied Number (OAN) and secure your equipment for the future.

This countywide initiative provides identification documents granting access to qualifying agricultural and livestock producers, equestrian partners, and their managerial employees.
